2020 ~ A Requiem.

The sea is calm tonight.” from Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold

The waves have ceased. The sun punctuates the horizon, casting a beam like a final shot in the dark. The seagulls are quiet, and nothing scurries across the wet sand. I am alone with this vast, still pond. Behind me lies another ocean. It is not calm. Stirred by passions and pathogens that overwhelm and perplex, its waters threaten to flood and destroy. We are caught in its turmoil and have lost our way. Whatever has calmed this watery leviathan before me, please wrestle the monster behind me to a similar peace.
